Cold weather and rain did not discourage nearly
2,500 devoted sport bike and drifting fans from
attending the launch of THE XDL SHOW, December
3, 2005. After two challenging days of practice,
often interrupted by rain, the first-ever gathering
of the world’s top drifters and stunt riders
pulled off the revolutionary choreographed extreme
asphalt show
THE
XDL SHOW treated the audience to a multi-car freestyle
drifting display at Irwindale Speedway. Orido,
Taniguchi, Ueno, Gittin, Wan and Forsberg used
the entire oval to pull off a demonstration of
precision driving combined with an amazing smoke
fest.
The motorcycle stunt contingent of Carmichael,
Woods, Britton, Hoenschell, Strickland, Bragg,
Schneider and Cline didn’t hold back either.
They pulled off multi-bike routines, high speed
wheelies, stuck flares into their bikes to light
up the act and of course burned through more rubber
in a few minutes than most of us do in a lifetime.
For
THE XDL SHOW finale, the entire roster of world-class
athletes combined their skill and talent to pull
off a dazzling display of synchronized moves that
featured the ultimate in precision and, you guessed
it, more smoke.
In
addition to the main event, THE XDL SHOW was complemented
by a host of other activities. Riley Cahill of
Beaumont, CA was the winner of the BFGoodrich
Tires Build & Boost. He brought his 1997 240SX
to the track on Saturday and the hard working
staff of Drift Speed installed Motegi wheels,
an Injen intake, a Tanabe exhaust, Tokico shocks
and Eibach springs. The boys from BFGoodrich Tires
mounted a brand-spanking new set of g-Force T/A
KDs. Technicians from The Snake Pit installed
a dash-mounted screen and rear-facing camera from
Vivo Electronics so Riley can see his own drifts
in real time from now on.
The
Mazda Circuit Drive was one of the most popular
attractions at THE XDL SHOW, with lines of people
waiting to drive on a precision course set in
the Irwindale oval in new Mazda MX-5 Miatas. In
another first, THE XDL SHOW featured the first-ever
pro drift ride-along open to the public. Close
to 100 lucky consumers were able to register for
a ride in a professional drift car courtesy of
the Falken Tire Drift Experience. HPI entertained
all day by putting on non-stop RC drifting demos.
